From J. Creel, Cryogenics Dept. Head (Feb. 2023): "Our oldest 2 Kelvin Cold Box had passed its usable life and was starting to give us increasing problems. We decided to design, build, and install a new 2 Kelvin cold box to replace the old one. We designed this new state-of-the-art machine with Air Liquide (Company). We then produced the drawings and the welders, pipe fitters, and electrical and mechanical technicians of the cryogenics department built it in the TED shop. We removed the old cold box and installed the new one during the 2020 summer down. The new 2 Kelvin cold box is now the highest capacity 2.07 Kelvin cold box in the world and has a much higher efficiency that the previous box which has reduced our operating costs. These images were taken Oct 31, 2019, inside the TED Cryogenics Fabrication Shop. This picture shows the internal piping just before we started installing the curved panels to enclose the insulating vacuum space."Front row, sitting, left to right: Sarah Ballard, Jay Noble, Troy Graves, Jonathan Creel, Shirley Yang, other, Kelly Dixon.
